Bullshit
I have been studying stoicism for a few years and find inspiration in much of the work, but of all the stoics I find the “meditations”of the the great emperor philosopher Marcus Aurelius the most pragmatic and inspiring. This poem is dedicated to both my Dad a man of Wisdom who I have hated and loved and Aurelius a man whose life and work I deeply admire.
Bullshit
“A Man’s life is what his thoughts, education, and determination make him into”
Why does THIS keep coming up in meditation?! THIS!
Was it Dad’s or Marcus Aurelius’s? It’s not relevant. Both great men, but the quote total Bullshit!
My thoughts not on jail
My education not of trash
my determination not of failure
Bullshit
My thoughts not of this, of them of that
My education not of the streets
My determination not of dealing or drugs
Bullshit
My thoughts not of ghetto garb
My education of Asians and whites, not them
My determination of success not failure
But was it Bullshit?
My thoughts not of the ethical or honorable
My education used for the non-ethical and non-honorable
My determination for $$ devoid of the ethical or honorable
TRUTH
My thoughts now of Freedom
My education now used for helping
My determination now of being in service
TRUTH
My thoughts now of ethics and honor
My education now of growth and god
My determination now redemption
Maybe Dad or Marcus was right “A man’s life is what his thoughts, determination, and education make him into”
ABSOLUTE TRUTH
